Sunday’s Opening Day festivities were a huge success! Some important information to pass along ….
Opening Day – Special thanks go out to Ginny Denvir and Karen Bachand for their work in making Opening Day such a success and fun event. They were ably assisted by Connie Brown, Jaymie Hyde, Kristi Poehlmann, Bill Farrell and Andy Kressley (on the grill!).
Work Day – Part II – Thanks also go out to everyone who showed up last Saturday to wield a paint brush or roller. All the new sections of skirting were cleaned up and painted. Everything was looking great for Opening Day!
Reminder – Just a friendly reminder to everyone that invoices for this year’s dues have been sent out. You should have received an electronic invoice sent to your email address of record. If you haven’t already done so, we ask that you make payment. For those who already have paid, we thank you.
Website – A new version of the EPTC website is up and running! Thanks to Chris Kilbourne for creating a new and (hopefully!) better version at essexpaddle.com. You will find the new front page prominently displays the club calendar as well as an overview of the court reservations for the current week. There also are links to EPTC events, merchandise and news. Check it out!
Women’s Group – The women’s group will begin their season tonight with an Open House from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
Men’s Group – John Morgan reports that the men’s group will begin play next week (Oct 14th). Emails for sign-ups will be going out this week.
Mixed Doubles – And don’t forget, the popular Sunday mixed doubles will get underway this coming Sunday, Oct 13th.
Big Paddle – The Big Paddle competition has been moved to the Fall in an effort to alleviate some of the congestion with the end-of-season scheduling. The men’s team will play Saturday, November 9th; the women will play November 16th. All matches will be held at the Hartford Golf Club.
What’s the Big Paddle, you ask? It’s an interclub competition between Essex, Stonington (COMO), The Hartford Golf Club and The Field Club of Longmeadow (MA).
Special Shareholder Meeting – There will be a special meeting of EPTC shareholders on Sunday, November 10th, 2024, at 11 am at the club.
There will be three items on the agenda: approve a suggested change to the By-Laws incorporating language relative to our liability insurance; approve a new policy relative to beer and alcohol use; approve financing of major renovation work for court 4. Pertinent information relative to all three of these topics will be distributed in a future email before the meeting date.
Until next time,
Jamey Burns (on behalf of the Board of Directors)
